Service to Others

Friends are committed to helping others in need.  Although we are a small group many of us volunteer at Food for Friends.  Food For Friends was started by Joyce White who lives in Bartlett TX and grew up in the area.  Joyce just celebrated her 80th birthday but every Friday she cooks and delivers a hot meal to her “Friends”.  Joyce saw the need and works to fill it.  She started out serving 30 people but over the past few years she now feeds over 150!  Every Friday morning volunteers cook a hot meal and every Friday afternoon the

meal is delivered.  The people Joyce feeds have no way to get a hot meal otherwise.  Several are homeless and some are Vietnam Veterans.  Some of the people worked picking cotton or cleaning houses and have no means to provide for themselves since they are now older and have health issues.  Joyce also delivers water and produce during the summer.  She helps get people fans who need them and in the winter she helps provide heaters.  We collect items for a clothes closet that are given to her “friends”.  Bartlett is a small community and is divided in half by Bell and Williamson County.  Meals on Wheels doesn’t deliver out there and most of the powers that be seem to think that Bartlett is someone else’s problem.  If you’ve never seen a rural community that is need of help, take a drive out to Bartlett or better yet come volunteer with us!
